Winter Season Anime 2022 Reviews

Hi everyone. As we are nearing the end of Winter Season for 2022, it has been another round of week long packed simulcasts for 3 months. Also, I will try to release my list for Spring 2022 Season simulcast selections as soon as possible.

What are the changes made to the review process? I will rate both the Japanese Dub and English Dub(If any) on a scale of 1 to 10 as usual. Afterwards, I will provide brief comments(If any) regarding the shows based on the rating given. The simulcasts are arranged based on their final episode simulcast date.

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Entertainment District Arc:

Japanese Dub: 9/10
English Dub: 8/10
Comments(If any): Another excellent production from ufotable in both story and animation. Each episode was both exciting and tense to watch as the story progresses. Strong character development for all the characters involved in the battle against the demons. Let’s see if they can keep the momentum going for the next arc.

Platinum End:

Japanese Dub: 7/10
English Dub: 7/10
Comments(If any): Overall its a decent show with lots of ups and downs as the character development for Mirai continues to grow. This shows really challenges ones faith in god as well as slightly shows the perspective of an atheist. The way they ended the series was quite odd and ominous where everyone disappears including ”god”. Not sure what they were aiming for after ending the series in such an abrupt manner. Not a show for minors as well as the faint hearted as there is a lot of depressing scenes and violence. If you are a fan of Death Note, this show is definitely for you.

THE STRONGEST SAGE WITH THE WEAKEST CREST:

Japanese Dub: 7/10
English Dub: 7/10
Comments(If any): Overall this show pretty average for the genre in a sense that almost every episodes ends on a positive note. Character development is somewhat lacking among the characters as they seem to focus quite a bit on their adventures but falls short every now and then. My guess is that this show is to promote their newly released mobile game as there is a lot of gaps in the story. If you are just getting started with RPG-based anime, then this show can help get you started.

Futsal Boys!!!!!:

Japanese Dub: 8/10
English Dub: N/A /10
Comments(If any): Overall this show manages to portray the sport very well. Good character development throughout the series. Quite satisfying seeing the team grow and evolve as they face off with many teams each with their own unique style of play which they had to overcome. I really hope there will be a continuation of the story with a movie or another season as they left it hanging at the end. A good sport anime for anyone to enjoy.

Sasaki and Miyano:

Japanese Dub: 9/10
English Dub: 8/10
Comments(If any): This show absolutely exceeded my expectations in many ways. The story was exceptionally good as well as the character development especially Sasaki and Miyano where their relationship continued to grow throughout the series. I can even say this show is one of the best for the genre. Let’s see how the story will continue since they announced another anime production has received the green light at the end of the final episode.

Tribe Nine:

Japanese Dub: 7/10
English Dub: 7/10
Comments(If any): This show reminds a lot of Akudama Drive in terms of the animation just with a Baseball theme added on top of it. The character development for the series mainly focuses on Haru and Taiga as they face many challenges in their to quest to be the best in Extreme Baseball or XB as they call it. Overall the story is decent with lots of twists and turns however the main character’s personality does get on your nerves sometimes as story progresses. A good sci-fi + sport anime for those who want something slightly outside of reality.

Sabikui Bisco:

Japanese Dub: 8/10
English Dub: 8/10
Comments(If any): Mushrooms oh mushrooms. That is my first impression when I first saw this show. The character development mainly focuses on Milo and Akeboshi where both were living separate lives before fate brought them together and they strive to free the world from the rust disease. The story is really good with lots of ups and downs along the way with a bit of BL element added in. A good anime for those who crave some odd adventure experience.

LOVE OF KILL:

Japanese Dub: 7/10
English Dub: 7/10
Comments(If any): This show is a bit tricky to follow at first due to the mystery that surrounds both Chateau and “Ryang-ha”. The character development mainly focuses on these two characters as they get closer and closer throughout the story while at time same more of their past becomes known. In the end, we never knew the real name for “Ryang-ha” which is kinda of frustrating but I guess that is how the author intended it to be. A good anime if you are an adventure-type with a mix of mystery elements.

The Case Study of Vanitas:

Japanese Dub: 9/10
English Dub: 9/10
Comments(If any): This show absolutely blew my mind with its excellent story and outstanding soundtrack which fits into every part of the story. The character development by far is one of the best I have ever seen so far with the main focus on Vanitas and Noe as they journey together to cure curse-bearers after their paths crossed on that fateful day. The story is full of surprises as we learn more about Vanitas and vampires in general as well as its current state. The one element that really stood out was the unusual but strong relationship between Vanitas and Noe which has been portrayed multiple times throughout the series. Their journey has not ended yet. Let’s hope for another season announcement during their special event on June 6th. An excellent anime for those who crave for adventure but with a strong friendship element mixed in.

Tokyo 24th Ward:

Japanese Dub: 9/10
English Dub: 8/10
Comments(If any): This show exceeded my expectations with its unique science fiction elements entangled with the everyday lives of ordinary people. The character development was excellent with the main focus on Shuta, Ran and Koki as they try to unravel the mystery behind their unique powers which seems to be activated after receiving the call from Asumi. The hardships portrayed in the show can easily be related to our every day lives which makes the show more engaging. An excellent sci-fi anime for everyone to enjoy.

Salaryman’s Club/Ryman’s Club:

Japanese Dub: 8/10
English Dub: 7/10
Comments(If any): This show is one of the unique sport anime I have seen in a while. Normally with sport anime it usually just focuses on the sport itself however this show takes a slightly different approach where they combine sports and work life which really gives it a more mature look. The character development is solid with the main focus is on Mikoto and Tatsuru as they excel in their work in sales at Sunlight Beverage while at the same time practicing for upcoming tournaments. The challenges they faced while at work and during their tournaments really brings out the the uniqueness in the show which resembles actual work life. An excellent sport anime if you are already know the sport and want something a bit more mature.
